No need to panic yet, but something to be aware of – a group of hackers have threatened to wipe iPhone data remotely unless Apple pays a ransom of $75,000 by April 7, 2017. More details are in the InfoSecurity Europe Hall of Famer Graham Cluley’s website here.
An update about Apple’s response is here: https://hotforsecurity.bitdefender.com/blog/apple-if-hackers-have-our-customers-passwords-they-didnt-steal-them-from-us-17844.html
Whew! Good news first: Apple is not the party hacked. Not so good news: Apple indirectly confirmed that some customers’ credentials are indeed compromised through third parties. Darn! But who are those unlucky souls? They need to be notified and do something – Apple pointed out 3 tips to defeat the extortionists’ scheme.
Weirdly no mentioning of the party that the hackers took the credentials from — please drop a line if you know! It’s got to do something too, before hackers pull schnanigans again. Better yet, rate them here – best way to let them know!
